ABOUT CASHMERE PRODUCTION

Margaux & The Bright Lights have worked closely with their Mongolian factory, which is a proud member of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance. This organisation works to improve the environmental impact of cashmere production and encourages responsible production in Mongolia. Through educational programmes and range land training, the risk of pasture degradation is minimised and wildlife protected.

The SFA also helps monitor and improve the  welfare practices of Mongolia’s nomadic herders, giving our goats the happiest lives possible.

The factory buys the cashmere directly from local farmers who remove the yarn by combing their goats, who live a lovely, outdoor life. The factory then dyes the yarn using toxin-free chemicals and dyes from Europe before knitting the final style. Being toxin-free is incredibly important and means that unlike many producers, the factory doesn't import dye from China, which often is full of nasties.

The cashmere used to make these beautiful wristwarmers is incredibly sustainable and has a long life span as it has not been over-treated to make it ultra soft. It will soften over time after a few washes and probably has 2-3 years more lifespan than typical cashmere.
