SUMMER READS by Natasha Poliszczuk
I write this with one mind on the football and the other on holidays. A holiday is the time that I really get to read, sadly something I don't do enough of when caught up in the busy whirl of daily life. Whenever, I am looking for good book recommendations, I always turn to my wonderful friend Natasha Poliszczuk, Books Editor, writer and founder of the brilliant Book-ish Newsletter (you can read it here and follow her fantastic Instagram account here).
I gave Natasha the task of pairing four fabulous summer reads with four beautiful Wardrobe 44 pieces. Here's what she came up with....Do let us know what you think in the comments and also any recommendations that you might have!
Wear whilst reading: Permanence by Sophie Mackintosh
This is such a coolly elegant novel - the writing is crisp, sharp and delicious. Clara and Francis are having a passionate affair. After months of covert assignations, they wake one day in an alternate reality - a stylish dystopia inhabited by cheating couples, where their only concern is each other. As they flit between this and the real world, they are compelled to consider which they would rather inhabit.
Wear whilst reading: The Treasures by Harriet Evans
The first in a planned trilogy, which centres around a rambling English house, Sevenstones, where roses clamber across old stone walls. One of those pleasingly chunky family saga which sweeps across continents - from postwar London to 1960s New York - and features a great love story, impeccable plotting, and spot-on period detail.
Wear whilst reading: Villa Coco by Andrew Sean Greer
I have long banged on about this charming novel, but I shall continue to beat that drum because it's the most enchanting coming-of-age tale meets comedy of manners, an ode to youth, age, beauty, chaos and joy. It also features a gloriously bonkers 92-year-old Italian Baronessa who is - glory be - based on a friend of Andrew's.
Wear whilst reading: River of Stars by Georgina Moore
The perfect summer read to whisk you away to Walnut Tree Island - a bohemian haven in the Thames, home to artists, musicians, romance - and secrets. This has it all: a whirlwind romance with a rock star, parties by moonlight, the messiness of relationships, the bonds between the generation, and the return of a lost childhood love. Gorgeously evocative and escapist.
